Quilt Codes
2021
Acrylic paint and adhesive vinyl on wall
95 x 139 in.

Created for the group exhibition "CO/Commonwealth" at Penn State University's HUB-Robeson Galleries, Quilt Codes explores the visual language so-called "freedom quilts" of the Underground Railroad. Disputed by historians, but embraced by many as a compelling story, freedom quilts are said to have marked safe havens for escaping African-American slaves during the American Civil War.
